Cold Weather Compaction

Although cold weather is not ideal for placing and compacting asphalt pavement mixtures, field experience confirms it can be accomplished under adverse conditions. Among factors discussed are mix characteristics, base conditions, transportation, lift thicknesses, types of rollers, handwork, joint construction, and specifications and guidelines for cold-weather compaction.
